Housing Counseling Program

Mon Valley Initiative’s Housing Counseling Team provides pre-purchase housing counseling and homebuyer education in group and individual settings. The Team also provides default and delinquency foreclosure prevention and loss mitigation counseling through a partnership with NeighborWorks® Western Pennsylvania (NWWP).

The Housing Counseling Team was formed in February 2005, following the merger between Mon Valley Initiative and Housing Opportunities of McKeesport. It was created with support from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency. Since its inception, the Housing Counseling Team has served 1,669 clients. Of all those served through the Housing Counseling Program, 492 of them have successfully completed their counseling activities and are now proud homeowners.
